How to use this test

Butterfly clicking uses two fingers on one mouse button, usually the index and middle finger, tapping it in turn so each finger only has to move half as often. Count what your mouse actually registers here: next to your average CPS you get your best one-second burst and the shortest gap between clicks, which shows whether the mouse is counting a tap twice.

Pick a duration; ten seconds is the default. Place your index and middle finger side by side on the left button. Click inside the gray area to start, then tap with the two fingers in turn, as fast as you can, until the timer stops.

What the results mean

Because two fingers share the work, butterfly clicking usually beats normal and jitter clicking; one mouse maker puts typical butterfly speeds at 10 to 20 clicks per second. A best one-second burst far above your average means the rhythm breaks down over time. Gaps of only a few milliseconds come from the mouse counting one tap twice, not from your fingers.

Slow≤ 3 clicks per second
Average≤ 5 clicks per second
Fast≤ 8 clicks per second
Very fast≤ 10 clicks per second
Elite (jitter or butterfly)Above 10 clicks per second

How to butterfly click

Rest your palm on the mouse and put your index and middle finger on the left button. Tap with the index finger, then the middle finger, like drumming two fingers on a table, keeping both close to the button. Start slowly to get an even rhythm, then speed up.

When the mouse counts double

Some mice register one quick tap as two clicks. That raises your score without you clicking any faster. If the shortest gap here is only a few milliseconds, your mouse is doing it; the double click test shows it more clearly.

Common questions

How many CPS can you get with butterfly clicking?

One mouse maker puts typical speeds at 10 to 20 clicks per second, sometimes more. Rhythm matters more than strength. Practice an even pace before you speed up.

Does butterfly clicking work on any mouse?

Yes, as long as two fingers fit on the button; wider buttons are easier. A mouse that counts one tap as two will show more clicks than you actually made, which the shortest gap reading reveals.

Can I butterfly click with the right button?

Yes. Use your middle and ring finger on the right button. The right click CPS test counts only that button.
