How to use this test

The spacebar counter counts how many times you can press the space bar in a set time and shows the rate per second. Choose 1 to 100 seconds; your best for each duration is saved in this browser.

Click the gray area so it has keyboard focus, then press Space. The timer starts on your first press. Holding the key down counts once, so you have to release it between presses. Press Reset to try again.

What the results mean

Most people manage 5 to 8 presses per second. Above 10 per second usually means a keyboard with a very short travel or a two-handed technique. If the counter stops responding, the page has lost keyboard focus: click the area again.

Slow≤ 4 presses per second
Average≤ 7 presses per second
Fast≤ 10 presses per second
EliteAbove 10 presses per second

Common questions

Why does holding the space bar only count once?

Key repeat is ignored on purpose. A held key would otherwise send dozens of presses per second and the score would measure your keyboard's repeat setting instead of you.

Can I use another key?

This page only counts Space. To check whether another key registers at all, use the Keyboard Tester.

The page scrolled when I pressed Space.

That happens when the gray area doesn't have focus. Click inside it first; while it's focused, Space is captured and the page won't scroll.
