Every test runs inside your browser. Nothing you type, say, show or press is uploaded.

How to use this test

The webcam test shows a live preview from your camera together with its resolution and frame rate, lets you mirror the image, and takes a photo you can save to your device. Switch between cameras if more than one is connected.

Press Start and allow camera access when the browser asks. The preview appears with the resolution and frame rate the browser negotiated. Use Mirror to flip the image the way a video call shows it, and Take a photo to capture a still. Press Stop to turn the camera off.

What the results mean

A preview means the camera works. The resolution shown is what the browser chose, which can be lower than the camera's maximum; video apps pick their own. A frame rate that drops well below 30 in good light suggests a slow USB connection or a busy computer. A black preview with no error usually means a privacy shutter or another app holding the camera.

Common questions

The preview is black.

Check for a physical privacy cover, then close other apps that might be using the camera. If the light on the camera is on but the image is black, try another browser.

Where does the photo go?

Only to your device. The photo is created in the browser and the save button downloads it like any other file; nothing is sent to us.

Why is the image mirrored?

Most video-call apps show you a mirrored preview so it feels like a mirror, but they send the unmirrored image to the other side. The Mirror switch lets you see either version.
