Mic Test

Check if your microphone works. Audio stays on your device.

Ready.

Every test runs inside your browser. Nothing you type, say, show or press is uploaded.

How to use this test

The mic test shows whether your microphone is working: a live level meter and waveform react as you speak, the sample rate is shown, and you can record five seconds and play it back to hear what others hear. Choose between several microphones if more than one is connected.

Press Start and allow microphone access when the browser asks. Speak normally and watch the meter move. Use the device menu to switch microphones. Press Record 5 seconds, wait, then play the clip back. Press Stop to release the microphone.

What the results mean

If the meter moves when you talk, the microphone is being heard by the browser. A flat line means the wrong device is selected, the microphone is muted at the operating system or on the headset, or the browser was denied access. A recording that sounds quiet or distorted points to gain settings rather than a dead microphone.

Common questions

The meter doesn't move at all.

Check the device menu first; laptops often default to a built-in microphone even when a headset is plugged in. Then check the mute switch on the headset and the input level in your system sound settings.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The five-second clip only exists in this browser tab. Reloading or leaving the page deletes it.

The browser never asked for permission.

You may have blocked the microphone for this site earlier. Open the site permissions from the lock icon in the address bar, allow the microphone, and press Start again.
