How to use this test

The touch screen test shows every point your screen registers as you draw across it, counts how many fingers it tracks at once, and reveals dead zones where touches aren't detected. It works on phones, tablets and touch laptops.

Draw slowly across the whole test area with one finger, right up to its edges and corners. Then put several fingers down at once and watch the count. Press Clear to start over. On a phone, turn the screen sideways to check the other half of the display.

What the results mean

Any area where the line breaks or no trail appears isn't registering touch. Phones normally track 5 to 10 fingers; a lower count is a limit of the screen, not a fault. A trail that appears away from your finger or that jitters while you hold still suggests a damaged digitiser or interference from a charger.

Common questions

Touch stops working near one edge.

A dead strip along an edge is a common failure after a drop or a screen replacement. Remove any case or screen protector and test again; if the strip remains, the digitiser is damaged.

Ghost touches appear while I am not touching the screen.

Try the test with the charger unplugged and with the screen protector removed. If phantom touches continue, the digitiser or its connection is faulty.

Why does the count stop at ten?

Most touch screens track ten points at most, and some laptops track fewer. The limit is part of the hardware design.
